If it's your first time carving up the holiday birdie, don't look like a fool and slice the poor bird to ribbons with ignorant hacking and slashing. Instead, take a glance at the web and you'll find several sites that have carving instructions.

The Norbest folks (purveyors of fine turkey flesh) have an instructional up for turkey carving here. Step-by-step style.

Kraft Foods makes more than cheese slices. And they also have a turkey carving instructional video right here.

But I think the easiest to follow is this step-by-step guide from eHow.

Have a happy turkey day.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2005-11-24T17:19:35Z</dcterms:modified>

Day Before Thanksgiving Disaster? Mail-Order It.

The recipes don't make sense; the kitchen caught fire; a half-dozen relatives called today to say they're coming over tomorrow--any number of unforeseen events can turn Turkey Day into SweatingBullets Day. But don't sweat too profusely; that's why we give thanks for the Web.

You've got to order these today (last day), but both these sites will deliver fully cooked Thanksgiving meals to your door--via overnight express. You gotta love America.

Gourmet Grocery Online has full dinners for overnight as well as gift baskets with a Thanksgiving feel. And for variety surf the site a little, because there's all kinds of high-end culinary goodness here.

Great American Farms is another dinner-delivery site, but a mite more traditional than Gourmet Grocery. Definitely good looking vittles, tho.

Dinners for both sites start around $135 and support 2, 4 or more diners.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2005-11-23T13:56:02Z</dcterms:modified>

First Thanksgiving Post: Recipes for Those Still Thinking About It

Decided to start my Thanksgiving posts a few days early, unlike my Halloween posts which some of you pointed out were a bit late day of. So how can the Web help with Thanksgiving? How else? Recipes! I compiled a few links in separate categories for those facing the big culinary challenge but lacking in reference posts.

Straight Turkey Recipes

The Food Mall has links to over 500 turkey recipes in case you want to confuse yourself beyond redemption.

A site with an appropriately geeky name, Slashfood, has a number links to traditional turkey recipes as well as a few more that were taken from the Wall St. Journal. And you know those guys are good at eating.

Stephanie Distler has a nice roast turkey recipe online, which she apparently poached from Jamie Oliver, who is not only a fantastic chef, but also has an excellent last name.

Stuffing Recipes

Elise's Simply Recipes site has her grandmother's 40-year old recipe. Sounds good as I'm sure it ignores all the modern no-taste food fads.

This is one promising stuffing recipe as it comes from the Down Home Soul Food Cooking blog--probably my favorite sort of cooking when I don't care about little things like dieting, carbs or heart disease.

Culinary Crimes with Turkey

These are just a few links of Thanksgiving rebels trying to subvert my fine roast turkey day with...alternatives.

First, check out Sal's Thanksgiving Meatloaf recipe. Man, that hurts to think about.

This crockpot stuffing recipe from Rosemary Weliver is categorized under Turkey Crime, but may actually be a real time saver if you're willing to take a risk.

Another rebellious twist on the turkey tradition is the BBQ turkey, recipe here from Round the Chuckbox.

My sister would never forgive me if I let a Turkey Crime section go by without a tribute to the vegans in the group. You guys can check out Susan Rizzo's Tofu turkey and nut stuffing crimes--I mean, recipes.
